It is an area so unique that it became the first sub-appellation designated entirely within Napa Valley. Located on the high slopes of Howell Mountain, ADAMVS is dedicated to honoring this renowned terroir and crafting timeless mountain-grown Cabernet Sauvignons.
Denise and Stephen Adams discovered the idyllic property that would become ADAMVS in 2008. In its mosaic of five vineyard sites, iron-rich red soils, ideal elevation and diversity of vineyard exposures, they saw the perfect convergence of geology and geography. To realize the promise of ADAMVS, and the goal of establishing a new benchmark for excellence on Howell Mountain, they gathered together a small team that includes legendary viticulturist Michael Wolf (Scarecrow, Bond, Beckstoffer), consulting winemaker Philippe Melka (Chateau Haut-Brion, Chateau Petrus, Dana) and winemaker Jason Valenti (Paul Hobbs Wines, Kosta Browne). Denise and Stephen also began cultivating their mountainside vineyard biodynamically and organically, ultimately achieving biodynamic certification. Grounded in a respect for nature, they chose this approach for its integrity and attentiveness.

Wine production began in a small way in 1995 with two barrels of Merlot. In 1996 the Merlot label was joined by Chardonnay, with quantities of both wines increasing slowly over the next few years. Having sold all of its Pinot Noir grapes to Etude since 1997, Adastra began to withhold a small amount of this varietal in 2002. Seventy-five cases were made of the 2002 Adastra Pinot Noir, to great acclaim; subsequent wines are proving even more exciting. At present Adastra sells slightly less than half its grapes to other producers.

Since developing and planting that first vineyard, they have planted five more vineyards of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes in the Napa Valley.
Grapes from the Ahnfeldt vineyards have been sold to BV (Bealieu), Markham, Sterling, Kendal Jackson and Hagafen wineries. These mature vineyards produce such fine quality grapes, that they are now used in their wines.
Bruce’s experience in agriculture goes back to his teenage years. For a number of years, he and his brother leased and farmed ten acres of apricot orchards in Los Altos Hills, California, now known as the world famous Silicon Valley. This early exposure to the joys of farming instilled a passion and love for agriculture which years later manifested itself in developing wonderful vineyards.

Presently, 10 acres of grapevines are planted on the Klein’s estate. Eight acres are Cabernet Sauvignon vines, and the remaining two acres consist of Cabernet Franc and Petite Sirah. Additionally, the vineyard employs a unique planting style in which vines are grown closely together, forcing each plant to produce only a small amount of fruit of the highest quality possible. Allora had its first harvest in the fall of 2002 and has been producing exceptional wine with each new vintage.
