Napa, Calif.—Quintessential, the family owned-and-operated fine wine import, marketing and sales company, has announced that it now exclusively represents Lucas & Lewellen Estate Vineyards as it continues to grow its portfolio of high-quality, multi-generational family wineries from the US and around the world.

Founded in 1996 in Santa Barbara County by acclaimed viticulturist Louis Lucas and retired Superior Court Judge Royce Lewellen, this family-owned winery grows 24 varietals across 380 acres of Estate vineyards situated among three of Santa Barbara County’s separate and distinct climate zones; Santa Maria Valley (The Goodchild Vineyard), Santa Ynez Valley (Valley View Vineyard) and Los Alamos Valley (Los Alamos Vineyard).  

Lucas & Lewellen’s daily operations are run by Managing Partner, Mike Lewellen (Judge Lewellen’s son), along with co-owner Louis Lucas, who manages the wineries’ vineyards. The grandson of Croatian farmers, Louis was raised in California’s Central Valley.  He brought three generations’ grape-growing experience to Santa Barbara in the 1970s when he became one of the first commercial wine grape growers in the region. 

“Louis is best known as an innovator and master at utilizing a variety of growing practices and techniques, with vast knowledge and experience spanning 50 years, much of that time tending to the vineyards that comprise our Estate,” says Mike Lewellen.  “We’re very fortunate that he’s still actively involved with the winery and we continue to learn from his expertise.”           

For the past 12 years, Megan McGrath Gates has been making the wines for Lucas & Lewellen.   A ninth-generation Californian, Megan graduated Cum Laude from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo with a BS in soil science and securing her Certificate in Winemaking from the University of California at Davis.  She feels extremely fortunate to be working with Louis as she passionately embraces centuries-old vintners’ practices while also managing Lucas & Lewellen’s state-of-the-art winery.   She considers her style of winemaking to be neither Old World nor New World, but believes in “balanced wines with all the components married together so that layers of complexity are allowed to unfold.”

Quintessential will bring to market Lucas & Lewellen’s Icon wine, Goodchild “High 9” Pinot Noir, and their varietal Estate Pinot Noir (considered the winery’s flagship grape), as well as the Estate Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Rosé of Pinot Noir and Hidden Asset (Red Blend), at price points between $17.00 and $35.00.
