One of the first things you will see when approaching the tasting room is what is now one of the single, largest blocks of head trained, naturally rooted Old Vine Zinfandel left in the United States. These vines, produced from cuttings Lance’s great grandfather, Giacomo, brought over from Italy in the late 1800’s, are in the true old head pruned style as was true of Italian vines in the 1800’s. Many are three feet tall to accommodate viticulture practices of his great grandfather, who was only five feet tall himself. The history that resides on the property where generations of Peirano’s tirelessly farmed the family grapes is evident by the tremendous condition these vines have remained in for over one hundred years.
